What is Cupping and Guasha?

Cupping & Guasha break up adhesions and knots in the muscle tissue to improve blood flow and circulation. Many of you might be wondering, what is with those marks? Well, both cupping & gua sha can leave therapeutic pitchaie (bruise like marks) on the body for a few days after treatment, keep in mind though that it does not hurt to get these therapies done.

Fire Cupping

Fire cupping is the use of cups placed on the skin or muscles to cause a suction. This suction helps promote circulation by stretching and moving the fascia and muscles. It helps reduce pain, promotes lymph movement, and treats old injuries.

About Cupping

Cupping has been used in many cultures for thousands of years, not only is it useful for musculoskeletal pain and injuries, but it can also help get you over a cold or flu faster, break up phlegm and congestion that accompany a cough, ease digestive complaints, and serve as a nervous system relaxant for conditions like anxiety.

Cupping can leave dark marks on the skin that look like bruises but are not painful. Generally these fade after 1-7 days.

What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha involves "scraping" the skin with a tool that is made out of porcelain, jade, or metal. This is used in a similar fashion to cupping, but can sometimes be preferable for contoured areas such as the neck. Gua Sha can also leave dark marks on the skin that generally fade within 1-7 days.

Facial Cupping & Gua Sha

Facial cupping involves the application of small suction cups to the tissues and muscles of the neck and face. For facial guasha it is utilized in a similar fashion, with a guasha tool. This technique is great for rejuvenating the tissues of the facial skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and leaving you with a healthy, luminous glow! Generally facial cupping & gua sha do not leave marks on the skin.
